Capacity Building Programs :
Reading Seminar

A residential Programme was organized in the month of January. 37 beneficiaries participated in this seminar. Reading at this seminar was restricted to the books written by Gijjubhai Badheka, Jugatram Dave and Mahatma Gandhi. A presentation on books, which were read every day, was done. In addition, written reviews were also acquired regarding all the books. Excellent response was received...

  • Now the library of the schools will be unlocked.
  • They ensure to read at least two books every month.
  • Such training should be organized in a year.

There is a total change in attitude that “How can there be a seminar on Reading?” At the end of the seminar the need for such seminars is understood.


Workshop To Prepare Subject Material Based On Hardspots :

During this workshop, participants were divided into four groups to prepare material related to hard spots (problem areas) in the subject of Mathematics, Science, Social Studies, and Gujarati/Hindi for Std. . V to VII.


Training Programme For Ashramshala Teachers :

58 teachers participated in this programme. Remaining 38 teachers were covered in second phase.


The teachers show a lot of enthusiasms during the training. They expressed an opinion that this type of Training opportunity should be given frequently.




Training Programme on How to Preserve our Clutural Heritage :

40 teachers from Vansada block were trained about how to preserve our cultural heritage. During this training, keeping in mind the various regional vernaculars spoken in Vansada block, modules based on the cultural heritage of Kunkuna, Dhodiya and warli communities were prepared. In these modules, the points like their traditional life-styles, festivals, outfits, food habits, jewellery, marriage and death ceremonies etc. were covered.


Master Trainers Training - Std. V Mathematics, Science & English :

MTs training Programme was organized for teachers of Std. V, who teach mathematics, Science and English. This training was given by KRPs. Prior to this training Programme, a meeting of KRPs was conducted to give required guidance and make preparations for conducting the training sessions.


CRG Training :

CRG training was conducted in all blocks for all the subjects of Std. 1 to 7 in two phases. Teachers from different CRC were trained by MTs with different teaching methods & teaching aids.


Programme Advisory Committee (PAC) :

PAC meetings were conducted during the first as well as the second term. The forthcoming training programmes to be organized by DIET were discussed in meeting. Suggestions were also invited from members. All the training programmes, which are going to be conducted during the year, were approved.


D.R.G. Training :

30 D.R.G. members were trained for four days. The objectives of the training programme was to provide extensive explanation in subject like Mathematics & Science, new textbook, grade system & new evaluation system. Necessary guidance were provided by experts.


Inter PTC Drama Compitition :

The trainees from B.M. Kansar P.T.C., Navsari and Gangpur P.T.C., Vansada participated in a drama competition held at B.M. Kansara College. Three plays were presented by the two colleges. These plays were based on “Totochan”, Divaswapna and “My experiments on trurth.”


ATD Teachers Training :

A four day training Programme was organized for art teachers with the intention of expanding the activities of art teachers in the district and to develop the artistic talents of students.


Yoga & Physical Training Programme :

Residencial workshop was organized for C.P.Ed. teachers from Navsari district. More emphasis was given on Yoga training.

Development of curricular Material


Workshop for Question Paper Preparation :

The purpose of the workshop is to maintain uniformity in question paper for the students of the district. Lecturers from DIET and Education Inspecors worked as guide in this programme.


Making of Blueprint :

Two days workshop was conducted by DIET, Navsari to prepare standardwise & subject wise blue print.


GAP–6 Test Paper :

Three sets of papers were prepared by teachers for GAP-5. Meeting with teachers, ADIs, Lecturers was organized at the same time to discuss the monitoring strategy for test. Test was conducted in all selected schools. Answersheets were checked & mark sheets were prepared.

Research Programs


Action Research :

The PAC had organized three training programmes of one day to provide solutions for classroom problems. With collaboration from Sarva Shiksha Mission, 20 action research projects were undertaken.

(Action research Projects) :
  • The Std. V students of Bhastaf-Khergam primary school in Chikhli Block of Navsari district are making lots of mistakes in spelling English.

    Conclusion:

    • The children can now read and write simple English words.
    • Majority of students can understand simple English words and can spell them while writing after reading them.
  • The Std. VI students of Parujan primary school of Jalalpore Block of Navsari district experience difficulty in writing descriptive essays.

    Conclusion:

    • There is an increase in the children’s capacity to observe and to describe.
    • Now the children can write descriptive essays in the better manner.
  • The Std.III students of Tata Nagar (Telada) primary school of Navsari district are making mistakes in division sums in Mathematics subject.

    Conclusion:

    • The children can be prompted to get interested in Mathematics by using techniques like Ganit Gammat, T.L.M. and teaching Mathematics through activities.
    • The students are able to solve subtraction Mathematics sums involving tens.
    • The concept of division has now been clarified to the students. So now they are able to solve division sums correctly.
  • The students of Std.II are making mistakes in solving arithmetic sums involving carrying over digits in adding numbers.

    Conclusion:

    • After teaching them numbers through songs, games and T.L.M., they could learn numbers effectively and could also solve problems involving carrying over digits.
    • After consolidating sums on black board, they were able to solve addition problems with carry over digits.
  • Some students of Std.IV are making mistakes in multiplying numbers in arithmetic.

    Conclusion:

    • At the time of pre-test, 70% of the students were making mistakes in reciting tables correctly and in multiplication sums. After experimental activities, 90% of the students are able to recite tables correctly and can also solve multiplication sums properly.
  • Std. III students making mistakes in spelling Gujarati words with Anusvar while writing them.

    Conclusion:

    • During his teaching, the researcher took extra care and inspired students to pronounce correctly some Gujarati words which are commonly used in social communication. Consequently some students were able to adopt these words well.
    • During experimentation on the blackboard, the students’ were explained the difference in the meanings of words through examples of words with and without Anusvar. Proper understanding of this left a lasting impression on the minds of the students.
  • The Std.VI students are weak in English.

    Conclusion:

    • At the time of first test, the students could score average 13 marks out of 25 in English. After remedial and experimental activities, now their average score is 20 out of 25. Thus there is a 25% improvement in the result after the first test.
  • Some of the students of Std.IV in co-educational school no. 4 of Navsari Nagar Palika are weak in attempting division sums involving three digits.

    Conclusion:

    • 12 students could not understand the concept of division. Negligence by parents and migration of parents for duration was responsible for this.
    • 7 students could not learn how to divide because their fundamentals are weak. i.e. 9% is the percentage portion of total students.
  • Some students indulge in undesirable activities like playing mischief and fish cuffs during recess.

    Conclusion:

    • There was a marked reduction in the incidents of mischief and fish cuffs, after the students were involved in various activities.
    • After directing the energy of the students to constructive activities, there was 36% reduction in complaints from the students and 20% improvement in students who used to do fighting.
  • A study of difficulties experienced by Mathematics teachers of Std.VII in the primary schools.

    Conclusion:

    • Some teachers do not use educational tools and do not undertake preparatory reference work, nor do they exchange ideas.
    • Lack of knowledge of basic arithmetic operations was noticed among the students.
  • The teachers of Verawal centre of Navsari district do not have adequate knowledge of Gujarati grammar.

    Conclusion:

    • Training programmes seemed to have produced remarkable increase in the knowledge of Gujarati grammar among the teachers.
    • After experimentation, the teachers became aware of the usage of punctuation marks.
  • The Std.II students of Vagam primary school making mistakes in ascending and descending numbers.

    Conclusion:

    • The students learnt the ascending and descending numerical series after these were explained to them using figures.
    • The concept of ascending and descending numerical series was clarified to the students by using TLM.
  • The students of Std. VI of Keliya primary school are making mistakes in solving sums involving decimal fractions.

    Conclusion:

    • After experimental work, 24 out of 37 students could solve sums involving decimal fractions.
    • The students could understand the concept of decimal fractions.
  • Some students indulge in undesirable activities like playing mischief and fish cuffs during recess.

    Conclusion:

    • There was a marked reduction in the incidents of mischief and fish cuffs, after the students were involved in various activities.

Activities to improve & support Community Involvement


Maths and Science Exhibitions :

Under the guidance given by GCERT, Gandhinagar, DIET-Navsari organized several maths and science exhibitions in the entire district. These exhibitions were organized at Primary, Secondary and Higher secondary level and CRC, BRC, S.V.S. and district level.

 

The main theme for this year’s exhibition was “                                                                   ” Secondary themes were as follows.

Planning Stage Meeting for Maths and Science Exhibitions :

Under the guidance of DIET-Principal, D.E.O. & D.P.E.O., meeting was organized with BRC-CRC Co-ordinators, S.V.S. convener, members of Mathematics and science union and the office bearers of the union. Dates for Maths & Science exhibitions at all levels were fixed after discussing the plans.

Ecology Club :

Eco clubs are established in primary schools to create environmental awareness in students.


Children Fair (Balmela) :

To develop creativity in children (Std. 1 to 4) Balmela are organized in each primary school of the district.


Sports Meet (Ramtotsav) :

To understand the importance of sports, physical fitness in day to day life, ramtotsav programs were organized in primary schools.

Adult Education

 

Advocacy training programme was conducted for PTTI students. Topics Covered in training…

  • Gender education – a new approach
  • HIV, AIDS, Awareness
  • Population education
 

This was followed by a question-answer session, covering explanations for queries from trainees.


Gender Awarness Training :

Male & female from Vansada block were given gender awareness training at primary school Bhinar - Vansada.


World AIDS Day :

On World AIDS Day, following programmes were arranged for the students & teachers of Primary, Secondary & Higher Secondary Schools & PTC colleges of the district.

 
  • Organization of a rally.
  • Remedies to protect against HIV/AIDs.
  • Elocution competition.
  • Poster Painting competition.
  • Group discussion
  • Relevant topics were covered therein.

World Literacy day :

To create awareness regarding literacy, lectures were arranged for the students & teachers of Primary, Secondary - Higher Secondary Schools & PTC colleges of the district.


School Adolecence Education Programme :

Principals, trustees, teachers & students of Secondary – Higher Secondary schools were covered under School Adolecence Education Training Programme.

Training Programs for BRC,CRC Regular teachers, untrained teacher, newly recruited teachers, pre-primary school teachers.


Training for Newly Appointed Teachers (vidhya sahayak) :

Training was arranged for newly appointed teachers. Following topics were covered by DIET lecturers during the programme.

 
  • New approaches & methods in education
  • Structure of education.
  • Aptitude based educational evaluation.
  • Yoga and art education.
  • SSA. Mission
  • The concept of CRC
  • How to maintain students records, registers etc.
  • How to welcome new students of 1st Std. by celebrating Shalapreveshotsav & Balmitra class.

ONE DAY TRAINING FOR BRC AND CRC :

A one day training session was organized to familiarize the BRC & CRC Co-ordinators of the district with the educational scenario of the district and blocks. Five B.R.C & 59 CRC coordinators attended the training. A comparative position of the Blocks about indicators for GER, NER, Drop-out ratio etc. based on data supplied by DISE was presented. Participants were also given information about the new evaluation system and the outcome of GAP- IV.


Anganwadi Training :

One day training Programme was organized for Anganwadi teachers so that they can understand child psychology.


Educational Guidance & Counseling :

To provide educational Guidance & counseling to high school students of the district, 4 centers have started under the guidance of GCERT.

 

Counseling will be made after knowing students’ IQ, aptitude & interest.
